Facilitators
We are Vicky, Jason, Juliet, Lloyd and Alex.
We have around 100 years of translation experience between us.
We are all part of a local translator network that has been sharing knowledge and organising socials in Cardiff since 2008. In that time,
a vibrant translation community has grown in the city. We have been attending conferences and networking events together for several years (eleven of us even ended up on the same flight from Cardiff to Berlin once).
We have met countless other translators and discovered that there
are as many routes into translation as there are translators themselves. All that collective expertise, all those experiences can be tapped, harnessed and shared with colleagues, so we can learn from each other, become better at what we do and serve our clients in the best way possible.
We have also found that your next great client just might be the next person you speak to. This love of networking and the buzz of getting together has helped to create our strong translation community in Cardiff and we are delighted to welcome you to the city we love.

Juliet Haydock has a translation career spanning nearly four decades. She splits her time between Cardiff and Tavira, Portugal. Juliet is from Derbyshire and arrived in Cardiff in 2016 after living in Rome, Turin, Venezuela and London. Juliet became interested in the idea of an unconference after hearing about the BarCamps held by interpreters in Germany, which seemed like a fresh and accessible approach to knowledge-sharing and networking within the profession.

Alexandra Chapman is delighted to find herself well over a decade into a career as a translator. Particular highlights have included translating an audiobook thriller and a six-part screenplay; regular favourites are journal articles on sustainable catering and packaging. Originally from Hampshire, Alex spent time in Germany and Russia before making her home in Beddau, south Wales, where her two children take turns to tease and encourage her in her efforts to learn Welsh.

Jason Shilcock has a passion for renewable energy and sustainability, recently completing an MSc in the field by writing a dissertation on community renewable energy (CRE). He spent over a decade in Barcelona (and feels part-Catalan), has worked in IT support and as a PM in a translation company, and mainly translates from German, Spanish, and Danish. Jason originally hails from West Yorkshire, but has lived in Sheffield, Moscow and Berlin. He moved to Barry just days before the first lockdown hit.

Vicky is animal-mad and a key driver of the Unconference's sustainability efforts, she is currently trying to reconcile her love of travel with her attempts to lead a more sustainable lifestyle. Vicky comes from the village of Gilwern, in the south-east of Wales, and now lives in nearby Newport.

Lloyd Bingham has only ever known life as a translator, starting out after graduating in 2011. And it didn't take him long to get involved in organising events. He's been on the committee of ITI Cymru Wales since 2014 and an ITI Board of Directors member since 2022. He has also played a part in organising Elia Together 2017 and ITI Conference 2017. But now Lloyd has two toddlers at home, life is quite different. Lloyd comes from Cardiff originally and has been back in the city since 2014, having lived in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland and Toulouse.
